We have finished up our 3rd week of distance learning. It is getting a bit easier as we learn things we can use to deliver our instruction. I have enjoyed the time to get to learn new things about how to deliver my instruction or messages.
Keeping in contact with kids has been challenging. There are those students that reach out regularly. Seeing them is great. It is a struggle reaching those students that don't want to connect with you. We are staying positive and continuing to touch base with them. One thing that was pretty fun was our Pet Parade online. One of our students brought up the idea and it was a good one. We had your regular pets, cats and dogs, but nobody expected a calf. That was really neat. This will be a weekly thing. We continue to do our Student of the Week also. This has been helpful connecting. The only problem is that we are challenged with getting all the students in the meeting, on the screen and quiet.
I am continuing to do my morning messages with a morning meeting twist. That helps me stay in my routine, practice my Responsive Classroom habits and hopefully connect with a few students.
We are 4 weeks from being done with our school year. We are ending earlier because of construction in our district. It has been said that some of our students will not have been in a classroom setting for about 6 months. It will be interesting to see what happens when and if we get back into the swing of things.
Stay positive everyone. We will get through this.
