This summer was, and still is, a free and easy summer. We really didn't have any hard morning or afternoon weekly commitments. Evenings were for baseball or tennis. Routines were different from school mornings to summer mornings. My son's morning ritual was to wake up, grab his i-Pad and start to watch videos about video games he is interested in. He would sometimes watch the videos and play the game at the same time.
Over time, my wife and I would notice a change in him. He would become somewhat defiant when we would tell him that he needed to be done watching about /playing video games. He wasn't super pleasant to be around. It was a struggle to get him to take on chores or jobs around the house.
We started to take away the privilege of using his technology. What a change! He became more pleasant and compliant. The change was remarkable.
I am wondering if there is any research out there showing what happens to the brain of a child while playing video games vs using the iPad for academics. I guess I have another thing to look into.
